Rob Tsai

Robert Tsai (Rob) was first
introduced to dance through
breaking, and subsequently ended up
in a dance class in high school
which further exposed him to
modern. During this time, dance was
less of a technical/physical
discipline, rather it emphasized
social/cultural contexts within
dance from a world view. It wasn\'t
until Rob attended Chapman
University in 2003 that he began
formal training in
ballet/jazz/modern techniques, all
the while continuing to enter
battles and establish a presence in
the bboy scene with his crew,
Instant Noodles.\n\n Prior to
pursuing a career in commercial
dance, Rob performed with
Gallimaufry & Greene, a modern
dance company directed by and
former Bella Lewitzky principle
dancer, Sean Greene, whom Rob
considers a mentor and great
inspiration. For the month of
August 2008, Gallimaufry & Greene
performed multiple showings of a
full length piece for the
month-long Edinburgh Fringe
Festival.\n\n To be perfectly
honest, Rob can\'t recall the exact
moment (if there ever was one)
where he thought, \"I want to be a
dancer!\" Besides family and
friends, dancing has been the most
consistent force in his life, and
that everything Rob has learned
about himself has been through
dance and dance experiences,
whether it be training,
performances, learning new
techniques/styles, or even working
as a dancer. As a whole, dance has
allowed him to realize his
physical, emotional, and
intellectual capacity...but more
importantly, it continues to
challenge Rob to be pushing his
personal limits.
